Tanya Battel, Principal of elite EA’s, has an impressive Curriculum Vitae that is diverse in the extreme in terms of Office Professionals. During her 17 years as a Senior Executive Assistant in Brisbane, she has worked at the highest administrative level of any organisation – as EA to the CEO, whilst acting as a mentor and guide for Junior Office Personnel – our Executive Assistants of the future. Tanya’s experience brings a strong understanding of what does constitute an exceptional Personal/Executive Assistant in today’s hectic Executive environment, the skill set required to achieve this and the best way to maximise your potential. And yes, good Personal/Executive Assistants are worth their weight in gold ... Tanya had a unique education. From the age of 10 she attended a Private Commercial Secretarial College in the UK, trading Home Economics for Shorthand and Physical Education for Accounting! At age 14 she was qualified (on paper but not age!) to teach Typing and was equipped with a Shorthand Speed of 100 words per minute. Tanya excelled in all Commercial Subjects. She commenced her first “Temp” Assignment at age 15 and was constantly requested as the preferred “Temp” for many Companies during College Vacations. After studying French Literature for 3 years, Tanya swapped her pursuit of a French Degree and commenced a Court Reporting Career working for the UK Government, recording Court Proceedings verbatim with the use of a speedy 250 words per minute Pitman Shorthand. At aged 21 she was sponsored by the Qld Government – Department of Justice - Court Reporting Bureau, and relocated to Brisbane where she was afforded the opportunity to travel with the Circuit Court throughout Queensland for a period of 6 years. In 1991 she took on her first Executive Assistant role to a well-known Brisbane Entrepreneur and this was to be the start of an exciting 17 year career as Executive Assistant to some of Brisbane’s leading CEOs & Senior Management. Tanya completed a Diploma in Business Management in 2006 whilst heading up the HR/Administration Division of a Logistics Company. Later that year she joined the Canadian Company Alcan (now Rio Tinto Alcan) as Executive Assistant to the President & Vice President of Pacific Operations and gained a reputation throughout Alcan’s global operations as one of the best Executive Assistants around. In March 2008, after constantly receiving comments from her peers regarding their fascination for her use of shorthand and role as a mentor , Tanya acknowledged that it was time to promote the unique art of shorthand to the upcoming Personal and Executive Assistants of the future and conducted Pitman Shorthand Classes in Brisbane throughout 2008. She now conducts Shorthand Courses via Correspondence to accommodate the National and International demand for learning Pitman Shorthand. Tanya has also written a Mentoring Guide for Office Professionals and a Complete Guide to Minuting to assist individuals wishing to pursue the challenging and exciting career path of a Personal / Executive Assistant. In 2008 Tanya was Guest Speaker at a luncheon held by the Focus Group of Personal Assistants of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Brisbane, designed to motivate and inspire Office Professionals to pursue Professional Development whilst in the role of Personal / Executive Assistant. In 2009 Tanya was invited to mentor a large group of Personal Assistants for Leighton Contractors' Sydney Office, sharing her experience and offering sound advice in relation to becoming an "elite EA". In addition Tanya was invited to launch Windsor Recruitment's SmartHour Professional Development series focusing on the EA role and the Office Environment. Tanya is regularly invited to "Guest Speak" in a number of Professional Forums to offer advice and share her expertise in the role of Executive Assistant. |
